class 09

Darcy likes dinosaurs and games.

Saturday 1pm class

Taylor started at Nest a few weeks ago

Thomas is quiet and humorous. I love this.

I have been teaching collage for the first time this term which has been great. We ask to hold onto some of the students work for a week so we can appreciate what they have made for a little longer than three seconds. Here are some photographs of work from the 1'oclock Saturday Nest Studio class- a rowdy bunch but such great work x

cool warm

I have mentioned these before on pattern-house but I keep going back to them, I love em, they are worthy of being on the walls of the Tate. They are all patterns by emily jagos who gives so many of her patterns away for free xxx

slow motion

One of those moments goes like this... you see your 4 year old with a metal spoon leaning over the bench daintily sticking it into THE TOASTER. I think I have aged 20 years today. I think I scared the life out of G because of my slow motion growl NNNNooooooOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I know your not meant to say no to kids anymore else it will damage their egos (no!) but this was a big one. The only thing going into our toaster now is toast...I mean bread.

Trimmings update

The Umbrella Print's trimmings 'giveaway' is still open and having just visited the pool growing over at Flickr I am really delighted to see what people have been making and the effort is tremendous! Wow! It's going to be so hard to choose a winner with all these beautiful entries xxxxxxx

There is still time to enter this is the info:

Those of you who have purchased (or do purchase) a trimmings pack are automatically registered for the giveaway.

All you need to do is take a photo of your pile of pieces then see how many beautiful things you can make from just one pack....

upload the before and after photos to flickr (tagged : umbrellaprints, trimmings)

and we will choose the most creative and abundant entry....

That very clever crafter will receive a parcel :: including a Sterling Silver Baby Elephant Charm Necklace + one whole metre of the fabric of your choice and a few surprises for your effort.

Make sure your photos are in by *September 8th (midnight AEST) and we will post up the winner the next day. You can of course still buy Trimmings packs in the mean time and not be in the giveaway.

*Note extended deadline

Good Luck!

Sunday

Lots of people love Sunday but I find it a weird type of day. Recently because of everything changing im finding it really hard to actually just STOP. I guess that would be called Momentum, which is great, Im not complaining, really im not but when I try to stop doing stuff its a bit like flinging myself out of a moving car- dazing, where am I, and who....are......you?

Also without getting too deep and meaningful when I was growing up Sunday was the day your Dad drives you home to your Mum and you say goodbye at the gate. In my head Sundays are always over-caste.

So Sundays are funny days; lots of places are shut; you drive around; you wash clothes; you go to the museum or wander the art gallery or Bunnings. OR! you go to The Big Rocking Horse (again!); .....actually this time it was really quite fun x

G didn't realize what was above her until we all shouted "look up, look up! What an amazing bird is the peacock!

nesting

Three photos of the new Nest Studio which houses Umbrella Print's fabric, product and a range of collected items including Japanese and Scandinavian pottery, German children's art supplies, children's books, floating wooden sculptures, simple organic clothing for women, leather bags and more- the premise being quality, inspired and thoughtfully designed items from now (and then).

The move for Nest Studio has been foremost in Carly's (owner, juggler, ideas woman, boss/ worker-bee, list maker, car mover, creative electrician, bouncer, baby-on-hipper, optimist) and my (alternating side-kick, second opinion, first opinion, muse, worker-bee/boss, find it, ideas woman, baby sitter, safety warden) minds and hearts for months and so much fun.

The opening for Nest and for my exhibition was on Thursday night and was heaps of fun (too many funs?no). Thankyou to everyone who came for the party including Fiona, Chris, Lily, Stefan, Grace, Holly, Christopher, Sarah, Belinda amazing beats, Sigrid, Ooma, Daniel, Amy O, Michelle, Clare, Mark, Anna, Kate, Naomi, Dave, Wendy, Jo , Ollie, Kerina, James, Karen, Emma, Zoe, Sunshine, Claire, Helen, Jan, Mariam, Judy, Ted, Juliette, Caitlin, friends from ye olde Q street and many new smiling faces.

Now, back to work x

Umbrella Prints X The Savannah Room

We were so happy to have come across The Savannah Room's beautiful cards and to find our own fabric already amongst her designer range (which includes another Australian designer Of Paper and Thread) that we thought well heck if this ain't a Tandem then what is?

So I am really stoked to announce our latest Tandem design ride with Katherine from The Savannah Room and to have her scrumptious handmade cards in Nest Studio especially for the opening this week and amongst Umbrella Print's range. Katherine's love for safari inspired design; her approach to making and her eye for design is just cool really xox

Lightness

Paper covering the window creates a lightbox out of the shell that is becoming the new Nest Studio. Carly and I discovered this by accident whilst taking a few photographs of the shop and studio whilst we bring it to life in Stepney. The light makes taking photos a cinch because its soft and white.
