Smell the Roses

A walk home with G from the mechanics has reminded me how much you don't see when you drive your car everywhere. These roses look like pink dots when I drive past which is nice but how gorgeous is it up close? Must walk more.

Tandem #1 at Umbrella Prints

Tandem Umbrella by J.Raznahan & Mark Owens

It was fortuitous to come across the above invention which captures the sentiment perfectly as Carly & I announce a new feature of Umbrella Prints.

We are lucky enough to have lovely lovely Brooke join us on our very first Tandem ride (our name for a design ride if you like). The fun collaboration involved Brooke's Boobook Sausage dogs being crossed with Umbrella Print's fabric, resulting in a brood of gorgeous, cute as a button soft toys for children or for adults in need of a hug!

Carly and I had been thinking a lot about working with other designer's to celebrate what they do best and what we do best without diluting either. We are so excited about Tandem and hope as we grow you enjoy the ride too!

G's favourite song of all time is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I always thought it was written by Mozart but yesterday that myth was busted it was written by a woman named Jane Taylor and there's more....

Part 2/3 Up close; Modern Australian Textiles

Pip Willy aka Phillipa Wilkinson was a classmate and friend back in Sydney early 2000's. We studied Textile Design and Printing together under Glenda Morgan and John (Pip you will have to remind me of John's last name). I used to rock up and teacher John would be lying horizontal on the printing table staring up at the ceiling. He appeared so chilled out but man did he know his way around a screen printing studio.

Now Pip Willy can be found here printing her own range of lovely prints for the home. She always had a such a good eye for mixing earthy colours- not a primary colour in sight x



This is a way up close and personal look at Helena Geiger's amazing batik. There are 3 pieces in the show including Boardwalk and Chasm and they arrived via Helena's SA representative Mary Jose (of the stunning Fabric of Life).

Having recently had another look at Helena Geiger's website I realise most of her work has sold in Sydney so you had better be quick to own one of her stunning, evocative fabric works at Nest Studio whilst they are still on show and available. I really hope to meet her one day.

teatowels


Little pieces of soft colour; the linen gets better with age. This one is from my mum's house its definately my favourite; its so sheer now from 30 years of drying plates. The colour is still clinging onto the threads- teatowels are under-rated!

What do you do when the household's tension rises over the weekend (because its raining, the washing machine is dying, theres no money and your all sick and feeling shitty). Go to Officeworks and buy a $45 pencil sharpener ON YOUR CREDIT CARD, go home and sharpen EVERY pencil in the house. Well, thats what S did- I just ironed the living hell out of a pile of teatowels....and we both felt heaps better :-)

Looking closer Part 1




I was thrilled when I discovered the macro- lens on my camera which makes for much less misty looking closeups.

In life some people see 'the forest' or 'the trees' but after some thought I realise I see the texture of bark on those trees, the insects under the bark and the insects wing details on the insect on the bark on the tree in the forest!

Here are the first in a series of closer photos of the Modern Australian Textiles exhibition showing for one more week at Nest Studio. Just shows it is worth taking a closer look sometimes else you might miss something.......

we live in Watership Downs- the suburb



I don't know what is going on; I went for a walk to the postal box and G counted 6 rabbits! We live in total suburbia? They are now in the front garden and sit under the warm car. My neighbour thinks they all go home to a house on the next street at sunset. Apparently the owner 'breeds' rabbits but how hard is it to breed rabbits?!
They are very cute and fluffy in small numbers but scary and twitching in large numbers or even worse under my cars tyre (which has not happened luckily).

Lucky


A few times in your life you get lucky.....really lucky...... and meet someone you can bounce off creatively and what grows is positive and encouraging and easy and fun. I just feel stupendously lucky at the moment surrounded by amazing creative, supportive people.

Modern Australian Textiles opened


The Modern Australian Textiles exhibition opened last night at Nest Studio, Queen Street, Croydon, South Australia.

The works all look glorious and there was a great response from the crowd. The show is open for the next month with the best times to visit being Friday 11-4 and Saturday 11-4.

Fabric works by Helena Geiger, Nicola Cerini, Publisher Textiles, Pip Willy, Umbrella Prints, Anna Laura and Laughing Bird Textiles are on show and for sale. It's been such a pleasure to help put this show together with Carly.

The Test

I'm loving having my own blog!!! I get to do all those things Ive wanted to do before, like pretend Im famous enough to be on Rage choosing the playlist in the wee small dark hours on the weekend. So here's my first track; the combination of this song with this video clip sends shivers down my back- absolutely one of my favourites.
