Warm and Fuzzy
I love this person's cute idea- Toy Society! And so much friendlier than sticking coins to the footpath for kicks!
Reminds me of a fantastic installation someone did back at uni; they decked out the interior of a public toilet cubicle with carpet, seat cover, dolly toilet paper holder, heater!, framed pictures and a hanging pendant light and a shelf with books. It was a revelation to walk from the cold grotty grey normal public bathroom into this space!
Another time there was an anonymous artist in Adelaide cozying up bustops with cushions and a good book to read. Cruuuuute.

Speaking of community, 'Samuel's Heart Benefit' has been organised by SCALA to raise money for baby Samuel's heart surgery. Samuel was born two weeks ago with Down's Syndrome and his family could really do with some support. Saturday 5th July, Joiner's Arms; 9 Manton Street, Hindmarsh, SA from 7:30pm

Come and have a glass of champagne and celebrate Modern Australian Textiles exhibition at Nest Studio Friday 6pm 4th of July Queen Street, Croydon , South Australia. Carly and I have been receiving a beautiful array of glorious printed and batik fabrics from around Australia in preparation for this exhibition which showcases some of the wonderful fabric design talent brewing and bubbling across Australia at the moment.
Featuring both established and emerging artists, Modern Australian Textiles, includes work by Helena Geiger, Nicola Cerini, Publisher Textiles, Pip Willy, Umbrella Prints, Anna Laura and Laughing Bird Textiles.
Thanks to Mary Jose (Fabric of Life), Pip (Meet Me at Mike's) and Micah (Rittenhouse) for their help.

'Paper Cuts' shows over
I went and collected the artworks that didnt sell at my first solo show 'Paper Cuts' at A Room of Her Own, Queen Street, Croydon. The show took about six months to prepare and was a huge goal of mine. I want to thank everyone who came to the opening, the show and who bought my work! Im waiting for the disc of photos I took of the show to come my way then I will do a wee summary of the work and meaning for me.
I want to thank my friend artist Karina Grundy (when I know how to do a link I will stick one on her work!) who opened the show with a speech. Karina had really thought about the meaning of 'Paper Cuts' and was lovely telling me I was NOT a complete wally for blubbering at the start of my own thankyou speech. 'Flower Jungle', 'Lightning Strikes Twice' and "Rain and Shine' are for you Kate xox

Sleeping on the job
One of the first Japanese words I learnt whilst in Japan was 'henzutsu'; 'hen' meaning strange and 'zutsu' meaning headache. It was imperative I learn this word as I am prone to the twice a year migraine and need to explain why I suddenly look blank and pale. You can only really know what this is like if you get them yourself .
Funnily my migraines dont hurt much but render me visual stuffed for want of a better term-ya! in fact there IS a better term.....auru....sounds moody and exotic but NO! Get a picture from a magazine, cut bits of it out and sprinkle the bits randomly on top and there you have it, what I see when I have an aura migraine.
This week it happened whilst at work so I rang the boss, shut the shop, pulled out the Yellow Pages as a pillow and went to sleep on the floor behind the counter! Fifteen minutes later jumped up A-OK opened the shops door and back to business! My boss says "THATS the kind of worker we want!".

L-plate blogger
Ok so I have been finding it hard to put the first few words into this here new blog of mine. After discovering blog-world only months ago I proceeded to twist a number of close friend's arms to get them to start their own blog but recently.........MY DAD!........ started a blog and I thought well no excuse now- my turn!
A bit about myself then.....god thats hard.....what box do I describe myself into? Well I am a married mother of one with a mortgage; a Commodore station wagon and a black cat. Don't go! there's more..... try.......Im a creative visual person who teaches at a children's art school and has two little budding businesses making brooches and art and designing printed fabric? Or.....Im a quietish person who can never forget a face who likes laughing till it hurts with a slightly dark sense of humour (as in I will be pissing myself laughing and noone else is moments) who is obsessed with print and pattern who is loving life who is discovering things everyday who loves her family and who feels like she has soooo much more to do and see!
Its been such a dark and grey day here in Adelaide Ive been at home this afternoon with my 3 year old and thinking about how amazing the age 3 is. Im learning about this age 3 when anything is possible and magical and innocent and non-judgemental. I think we have so much to learn from 3 year olds. Yesterday G came up to me and said "your my brown rose Mummy"....melt....this morning it was "mum , you stink"!. At the art school the 3 and 4 year olds do the most gorgeous drawings....a pink spider is a wobbly circle with lines alll the way around it.
Time to wrap up my first ever blog entry. Im so glad I can comment on other peoples blog's now legitimately!
